The Last Quentista

I had not heard of this book until it won the Newbery Medal for 2021.  It was an interesting story, akin to The Giver, in which one person becomes responsible for all the stories of the past.  In this futuristic novel by Donna Barba Higuera, Petra and her family are chosen to travel to a new planet to save the human race when it is determined that a meteor will destroy the Earth.  Petra leaves her beloved grandmother behind, the source of all the beautiful stories of the past.  When they arrive on the new planet, they are put into a sort of hibernation for many years.  However, a group of people known as the Collective has plans for the new planet, and it does not include any traces of a past that they deemed defective.  With some help, Petra must secretly resist and maintain her memories, free the others, and find her family.  (FIC HIG)
