My thoughts about the children's literature that I read which hopefully help my K-5 students and parents find a great book

The Parker Inheritance
I loved this book. It was a beautiful blend of mystery and historical fiction. A girl stumbles upon a mystery that destroyed the reputation of her grandmother. It involves a treasure hunt and a large sum of money at its end. However, while uncovering clues, she and her new friend also learn of the history of the Southern town; a history of racism, prejudice and abuse. The book flips back and forth between the present and the past. The reader discovers that although the degree of racism that occurred in the past has decreased, there are still present-day issues causing many people to still face discrimination. (FIC JOH)
